Confessions of a Cat Freak
by Lily S. Clark //
Quilty is now a new famous internet fero AKA feline hero. He is famous for freeing himself and other cats from a room in Friends For Life Animal Rescue and Adoption Organization in Houston, Texas.
He is surely a clever and unique cat. He has a unique ability to open doors by pulling down on the handles that have led him to be the media sensation that he is today.
However, the ability to escape isn’t only belong to Quilty. Perhaps your cat attempts to escape from your house as well and you wondering why they do such things.
Although it is most common for female cats to reproduce between six and nine months of age, they may become pregnant as early as four months of age.
Male cats will also be mature and capable of breeding the cat before one year of age. In seasonal climates, mating usually takes place during the warmer months, but can occur at any time.
SOLUTION: Spaying, neutering, and sterilizing avoids your male cat wandering, searching for a female in heat.
Cats are pure carnivores, and their wild relatives are lone predators who can feed on a broad variety of animals, including tiny rodents, birds and insects. Cats have been domesticated, but they maintain some of the habits of their wild ancestors, particularly those associated with hunting and feeding.
Whether or not a cat is hungry, the sight of potential prey awakens their hunting behavior. It doesn’t know whether it’s an outdoor, an indoor or a wild cat. Their hunting instinct is inherited and thus passed down from generation to generation. Until recently, cats have been used as pest control and only the best hunters have been able to live longer and reproduce. This means that modern pet cats are the offspring of good hunters.
SOLUTION: A good supply of mice or other prey might have enticed your cat to act on its natural instincts.
Cats are animals of the territory. In the wild, a cat creates an area where she sleeps and eats–her home base–and where she hunts and mates–her home range. The territory radiates from the home base and its size is generally related to the availability of food. If the food is plentiful, there is no need for a large household range, but if the food is scarce, it does. The jurisdiction of the cat consists of a network of roads that are routinely patrolled on a fairly fixed timetable.
SOLUTION: Don’t make them feel that their territory is threatened cause neighborhood cat drama is real.
One of the reasons of your cat keeps trying to go outside is probably your neighbor have been feeding your cat all this time. When they feed your cat, there’s every possibility the neighbor feels they’re doing something good.
Well, it can be tricky for some reasons too, such as:
1. Cats are not afraid of being greedy. Getting two dinners from two different locations, why not? Unfortunately this can lead to health problems.
2. Your cats may start staying out later than usual because they are waiting for the food from your neighbor. This could lead to a dangerous situation for your cats or your cats injured by other animals.
3. Your neighbor can not stop feeding your cat abruptly. Maybe they’re going to their own pet or move home. Maybe they’re going to have a new house member who’s allergic to felines. When they decide they don’t want your cat at home, it might confuse your pet.
So, after knowing the reasons why your cats keep running away or escape from their rooms, you might want to prevent these things from happening. What do you do to prevent cats running away? Share your thoughts!
